TL;DR
- Replaced, Not Gone Yet: The 2nd-gen Onn 4K Pro took over in April 2026, but some stores still have the original.
- Onn 4K Pro (2024) still getting the updates: Android TV 14 in June 2025, Gemini in December 2025, and a March 2026 security patch.
- Walmart has not said how long the original will be supported. So it comes down to leftover stock.
Walmart quietly replaced the original Onn 4K Pro with a 2nd-gen model in April 2026, with no announcement. The 2024 Onn 4K Pro is now sold only as leftover stock at $44.73, but owners can relax for now: the box is still receiving software updates.
Software Updates for the Onn Pro 1st-Gen
The original Onn 4K Pro shipped with Android TV 12 in May 2024. It moved to Android TV 14 in June 2025.
The first rollout bricked some devices and was halted. A revised build followed at the end of June, and Walmart pushed it to older Onn devices too.
Gemini replaced Google Assistant on the box in December 2025, and a March 2026 security patch began rolling out in April 2026.
What the 2nd Gen Changes
The new Onn 4K Pro launched at $59.88, about $10 more than the original’s $49.88. and is reportedly powered by a newer Amlogic S905X5M chip.
One change disappoints buyers: the USB port drops from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0, and Ethernet stays capped at 100 Mbps on both models. Some readers said they would look for a used 1st-gen unit instead.

What Comes Next
Walmart has made no official statement on how long the 2024 Pro will be supported, or whether it or the 2nd gen will get Android TV 16. Google is skipping Android TV 15 and going straight to 16.
Walmart has updated older Onn devices before, including its 2021 and 2023 boxes, so more updates are possible. With a newer flagship on sale, owners should expect security patches and bug fixes first.
The new model has been hard to find too. It reportedly sold out within weeks of launch, with resellers asking nearly double the retail price, and Walmart restocked it in July and September. Availability still varies by store.
